Many deep green thinkers would say that having mobile and electronic devices is just promoting our consumerist society, exacerbating issues of conflict minerals, supporting unsustainable supply chains, indirectly funding fossil fuel companies and promoting a throw-away society.
But I am a realist. In terms of social sustainability and culture, there is no way any of us would be able to function in society if we did not have a mobile device, tablet, ipad, laptop or whatever you prefer. In fact, in our search to be more sustainable we can actually use these devices to our advantage. Apps can be an extremely useful tool to further our sustainability agenda.
